Sample 12-day itinerary

Your actual itinerary is built around your flights, interests, and pace. This is the most common shape of this tour. If you have interests in specific excursions or experiences, please let us know.

Day 1 — Arrive Casablanca. We meet you and are easily visible at the Mohammed V Airport, just outside customs. We transfer you into the city in your vehicle for the week, settle in at the hotel near Hassan II. Walk the Corniche at sunset for a beautiful view of the Atlantic sunset.

Day 2 — Casablanca & Rabat. Hassan II Mosque interior tour in the morning, if available and chosen by your tour. Drive north along the coast to Rabat for the afternoon. Tour the Kasbah of the Udayas, Hassan Tower, the Royal Mausoleum, and overnight in the capital city.

Day 3 — Chefchaouen. Drive north again, through the Rif mountains, into a whole different Morocco and the “Blue City.” Take the afternoon free to wander down to the small medina and lunch in the square. The photo opportunities seem endless, and the stairs are plentiful. Plan appropriately before returning to beautiful accommodations overlooking Chefchaouen. If you’re a hiker, this is one of your places.

Day 4 — Volubilis & Fes. Tour the incredible Roman ruins of Volubilis, with a local guide if you choose. See the frescos as you learn the interesting history of the Amazigh people who lived in a Roman-built city. Take a short stop in Meknes for the Bab Mansour gate and then continue to Fes, where you overnight in a gorgeous medina riad.

Day 5 — Fes medina. An unforgettable tour, fully guided by a local Fes expert who will help you get wonderfully lost in the 9,000 alleys of Fes el Bali. You’ll visit the iconic Chouara tannery, the oldest functioning school of Al Quaraouiyine, medersa Bou Inania, and more. Those who tour Fes are more wide-eyed than anywhere else in Morocco, and enjoy the second night at the riad.

Day 6 — Middle Atlas to Sahara. Our drive South will reveal the incredible natural diversity of Morocco within just a few hours. Cedar forests of Ifrane and Little Switzerland, Barbary macaques, the Ziz Valley, and a pocket of the Sahara reserved just for you will have you stunned at how it all happened in one drive. Arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara in the afternoon and take a Camel trek into the dunes for an unforgettable sunset. Overnight in a premium desert camp that includes Amazigh traditional music, sometimes around a campfire.

Day 7 — Desert day. Wake up early for the sunrise over the dunes. Don’t be the one who sleeps in and only hears of its golden brilliance. Morning with local Amazigh families, sandboard, ride four wheelers, or take a 4x4 journey through the dunes. Take a second night or move to a kasbah hotel for a headstart on the next day’s journey.

Day 8 — Dades Valley. Drive west, back toward the dramatic High Atlas mountains to the Todra Gorge for lunch and a walk. Wind your way into the Dades Valley and its stunning Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. Overnight in Dades and marvel from your hotel at the brown mountain landscape surrounding the lush green of the valley’s town, all right there in front of you like a master’s painting.

Day 9 — Ait Ben Haddou & Marrakech. Spend the morning at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. Then head over Tizi n'Tichka pass into Marrakech by evening for an unforgettable night in Jemaa el-Fnaa square. Overnight in a Marrakech medina riad.

Day 10 — Marrakech medina. Head back to Jemaa el-Fnaa to see how different it is during the day. Visit the Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Medersa, and souks with guides appropriate for each stop. Return that evening to the square for food stalls and storytellers. Spend your second night in Marrakech.

Day 11 — Essaouira. Drive west through the Argan country to the Atlantic. Afternoon on the ramparts and in the fish port. This is a windsporters’ paradise, so let us know if you want to head out to sea with a licensed and reputable operator. Spend the night in a riad with the windows open and smell the ocean breeze.

Day 12 — Return to Casablanca. Take the coast road back via El Jadida and bid farewell to your new favorite country with an evening of leisure and your final dinner. You will likely depart the next morning from Mohammed V Airport, or transfers can be made to other cities. Until next time, Inshallah.

Want more time? We typically add an extra night in Fes, a second desert day, or a stop in the Ourika Valley from Marrakech, but you choose! Short on time? The 10-day version cuts out Rabat, one Marrakech day, or Essaouira, but we always make every attempt to accommodate for your preferences.

Before you book

  • This tour works in either direction. Casablanca start is most common, but Fes and Marrakech are easy alternatives if your flights dictate.
  • We recommend at least 11 days. Ten is possible but means long driving days. Twelve to fourteen gives your stops the leisure they deserve.
  • Winter is fine in the cities but nights in the desert and High Atlas can be very cold. Summer is comfortable on the coast and in the mountains, but hot inland.
